This page reflects the work undertaken by the learning circle on education. For the time being, the group has decided to limit the scope of its discussions to the area of formal education, and focus in a second phase on non-formal education and technical training, as well as the need to build bridges between formal and non-formal systems.
Some of our concerns are:
- What are the principal characteristics of learning? What aspects or qualities found in Salvadoran culture and traditions favor the spirit of learning, creativity, innovation? Which inhibit them?
- What are the chief opportunities and threats related to formal education in El Salvador? In the current stage of the ongoing educational reform? Significance of the large-scale introduction of computers for secondary education in January 1999?
- How are gender differences seen in learning in El Salvador? Socio-economic class differences?
- What aspects of the educational reform favor the lifelong learning? How can we strengthen those aspects in the course of the reform's implementation?
- What is the role of teachers (both current and desirable) in helping develop learning students? Others? ¿The impact of EDUCO on learning? Educational television?
- What types of partnerships and projects among the Ministry, private schools, NGOs, communities and/or businesses could strengthen learning and innovation? What about international networks and/or projects?
- What IT-related mechanisms could help promote and stimulate learning at each level? Reinforce retraining of teachers and the educational reform?
